Groove Holmes: Comin on Home
This is a fav of mine going back many years to a bizarre period on Blue Note where there were some less than popular jazz lps however with this lp Blue Note chose a rare star appearance by Groove Holmes at the time. It was Groovin for Mr G that blew my head at the time and I have never quit loving that fat sound the track gives
Personnel includes: Richard Groove Holmes (organ); Weldon Irvine (electric piano); Gerald Hubbard (guitar); Chuck Rainey, Jerry Jemmott (electric bass); Darryl Washington (drums); Ray Armando (congas); James Davis (percussion).
Producer: George Butler.
Reissue producer: Michael Cuscuna. Recorded at A&R Studios, New York, New York on May 19, 1971. Originally released on Blue Note (84372).
Here is the back cover courtesy of Village Vanguard Gokudo!
You can this on CD as part of the Rare Groove series which replaced my hard to find Japanese CD which took me years to track down.....if you see the vinyl ......grab it while you can!!!

Now Playing ....John Patton Soul Connection
Big John Patton Soul Connection
Managed to hunt this down a few years ago and could not find a picture of the LP until now ( nicked off of Ebay!) .
Anyway this is a killer lp by John Patton on Nilva called Soul Connection which came out mid to late 80's as far as I know and was a enlightenment for me ( an already dyed in the wool John Patton freak) to hear him...still alive at the time and making damn fine music too.
He really works well here with Grachan MoncurIII and the only shame is that this has not come out on cd yet. He did Blue Planet man on King I think and then a few other records on DIW in the 90's
This
and this
.......................but sadly John is dead now and the project is over. Blue Note have done us proud with a three disk Mosaic Select set but it is little labels like this that pop up little surprises .
For those interested more John Patton can be found on these recordings: (courtesy of organissimo site)
I have most of these save the early Price recordings, the Thornton and later Zorns
